We build small schools that communities want.
Small Schools by Design collaborates with local communities to plan, fund and build small, project-based and tuition-free middle schools
Small Schools by Design was created to fill a growing need for small schools and humanistic school structures in the emerging twenty-first century education landscape. At a time when education-savvy parents exercise school choice more than ever, communities are clamoring for new programs and schools for underserved populations, and neurologically diverse and gifted learners.
Our mission is clear: We respond to their families' expressed needs for adding small, project-based alternative middle schools in their communities.
Small Schools by Design provides the start-up funding and school oversight for middle schools built with the four pillars of our evidence-based, small school design.
Why are we doing this? Simply put, we believe that for our democracy to thrive in the twenty-first century we must build small, responsive and inclusive schools where students are known well and attended to.
